My name is Andreia Gabriela Popescu. I was born in Bucharest, Romania on 4th August 1973. I design and create contemporary jewelry since 2010, and I am also teaching at Assamblage, the Romanian School of contemporary jewelry.
My education formed me as an economist, graduating the Academy of Economic Studies-Department of Finance, Banking and Accounting in 1997. I have worked in my field for a few years, while developing a few creative activities in the meantime. All this culminated in 1999 with creating my own company of design and production of clothing.
At first, my interest in jewelry came to complete my interests, since I was being permanently pulled towards activities concerning art and creation, but has later on evolved into a career change.
I tend to create either extremely limited series or one of a kind pieces and also costume pieces. Usually I gravitate towards precious and semipreciuos materials: gold, silver and natural gemstones, but I also include unconventional materials. Although some of the materials I use are not specific to classic jewelry, the combinations that I use give the personality and originality of each piece. My jewelry stands out through the daring volumes and shapes I tend to use and the new finishes of the surfaces.
My pieces are created on the inspiration of the moment that comes from everywhere around me: feelings, shapes, colors etc. They collection always starts from a concept and I like to build my pieces on the story I choose to tell. I feel that my pieces are for me more that a preciuos object, they are pieces of applied art with their own story to tell.
I create all kinds of jewelry for both men and women, but I mostly like to create rings. For me, a ring represents a form of communication in itself, it is a business card of your personality. A special ring makes you feel good, but can also say the most about your personality. I equally create bracelets, earrings ... pieces that i can "build" their story while I'm working on them. My jewelry is distinguished by bold and novel shapes, finishes of surfaces. The apparent difficulty in wearing, makes them more complex and atypical.
As a conclusion, I can say that my jewelry can be worn by special people, able to understand the story behind each piece that they wear, that understand and appreciate the precious metal at its intrinsic value and feel the vibration of crystals and stones used.
My jewels are worn by those who understand, appreciate and collect art. I want my jewelry to transmit positive energy, feelings and intense experiences above the image.
